Overview

Our 5 day/ 4 night tour of Wales may be our shortest tour but is no less awe-inspiring and dramatic than the others! Wales offers a bit of everything- old castles, ancient priories in remote valleys, far-reaching coastlines, quiet countryside and soaring mountains- all connected with amazing riding routes.

This tour starts and finishes in the South Wales town of Monmouth, just over the border from England and easily connected to the main transport hubs in the south east of the UK. In just 4 full days of riding, you will visit three of the UK's finest national park on riding days that are both full and yet relaxed, whilst staying in places that allows you to unwind and relax whilst also offering a little hint of Welsh hospitality.

This is a shorter tour, ideal for those with a little less time and who want to focus on a particular region of the UK known for its natural environments but also historical importance.

We congregate at our hotel and have an introductory session on the up coming tour and get to know each other over some dinner and drinks

We leave our hotel and take a scenic, convoluted route through the Brecon Beacons National Park, stopping at lovely view points and the 12 century Llanthony Priory. Emerging from the mountains, a countryside route to the southwest and our accommodation in Pembrokeshire awaits.

Our morning ride takes round the Pembrokeshire Coastline, past the old capital of Wales- St Davids- and then a up to Cardigan Bay and onwards to Aberystwyth. In the afternoon, we visit one of Wales' most pristine beaches for a wander along the sand and perhaps a visit to another castle, then finishing the day with a lovely route through the southern regions of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and our accommodation near Betws-y-Coed.

Today we head out to make the most of the wonderful routes through the region. Initially we take a convoluted route through the mountains and see one of the UK's most famous mountains- Snowdon- up close, followed by a stop in the city of Caenaerfon with its incredible castle and old buildings. In the afternoon we ride a clockwise route around Anglesea and then a final stint back through the northern reaches of Snowdonia to Betws-y-Coed.

The last day of the tour takes us almost the full length of Wales, initially setting out on some more of Eryri's mountains routes and then into a relatively quiet through the open countryside of mid-Wales. Passing Rhayader, we are soon back into the Brecon Beacons and once through, it is a short ride into Ross-on-Wye to say our farewells... until the next tour!

FAQs

This tour is for riders who want to focus a little more time riding in the mountains and castles that Wales is known for. Being our shorter tour, it is ideal for those who want to add a short tour of Wales onto a bigger trip to the UK, but is open to all!

This tour is for all- the routes and the distances generally manageable for all riders!

All routes are paved and generally of very good quality. In terms of the type road size, we mostly avoid motorways (M-Roads) unless we need to make a quick path through an area to get to the more scenic and enjoyable A and B roads, which make up the overwhelming majority of the route.

Although we can never predict the weather, as our tour takes place in the summertime, the conditions are typically warmer and more suitable for riding. However, rain is always a possibility at any time of the year so suitable wet weather gear is highly advised. Self guided and other tours will need receive further planning consultation if they are taking place outside of the main summer season.

We generally stop in local cafes for both mid-morning break and lunch where coffee, soft drinks, cakes, snacks, sandwiches, paninis etc and sometimes hot food will be available. In the afternoon, we typically stop at points of interest or special sights for a shorter amount of time and food/ drink may not always be available.

We stop for mid-morning coffee, lunch, and then again in the mid afternoon. Breaks are typically every 1-2 hours- enough time to enjoy some wonderful roads and delightful scenery and then chat about them with the group!

The tour does involve some walking at some of the stops to make it to the scenic spots and explore the area. In addition, we cannot guarantee access will be available for those with reduced mobility in all places, so we would advise against joining this tour if you don't feel comfortable with such activities.
